Industrial Integration and Economic Impact Working Group

Working group area for registered members only (log-in required)

Materials modelling is considered as a European science and technology strength but needs far more implementation and use in industry to reap its full economic impact. The overall objective of the Industrial Integration and Economic Impact Working Group is to raise and measure the economic impact of materials modelling in industry. This entails complementing measures to other working groups for stimulating the use in large, medium and small enterprises and measuring the overall impact. It includes setting up an industrial user group to define and address materials modelling barriers, elaborate costs and benefits for adapting materials modelling in business decisions, and enhance the visibility of materials modelling overall.

Objectives

  1. Establish a forum for the European manufacturing industry to express their requirements for materials development and design, and associated materials modelling, with particular emphasis of engaging SMEs
  2. Coordinate future Business Decision Support System developments to facilitate their dissemination and maximize the potential benefits for the European manufacturing industry
  3. Clarify the costs and benefits of materials modelling by quantifying the economic impact for the European manufacturing industry
  4. Enhance the visibility of materials modelling capabilities for European manufacturing companies and associated stakeholder organisations (materials federations, interest groups and associations, governments, software vendors, academics, general public)
  5. Channel and organize feedback from user communities to commercial and academic software owners
