Within the framework of the EMMC, H2020 Projects “FORCE”, “MarketPlace”, and VIMMP” are taking part in the Minisymposium at ICIAM 2019, July 16, 2019, Valencia – Spain

Abstract

Minisymposium ““Molecular and Mesoscopic Modelling in Chemical Engineering Data Science”

Reaching quantitative agreement with available experimental data, and predicting properties where data are absent, molecular and mesoscopic modelling transforms chemical engineering data science.

This minisymposium discusses virtual marketplaces and platforms by which the knowledge from multiscale modelling and simulation can be transferred to engineering practice. This requires an institutionalized collaboration between academic and industrial engineering, scientific computing, and applied mathematics, and jointly governed semantic assets to ensure the interoperability of models, numerical solvers, and databases.

Initiatives working toward this (FORCE, MarketPlace, and VIMMP) are represented at the minisymposium jointly with translators who connect method development with engineering practice.

EMMC Expert Meeting on Open source, free software and commercially supported software for materials modelling

Date – October 25-26, 2018

Venue – tba, Paris, France

One of the main objectives of the EMMC is increasing the use of materials modelling software in the European industry. As described in the attached document, the Paris meeting serves this objective by bringing together leading European software developers and stakeholders.

The expected contribution from the invited experts will be very short impulse talks (5-10 minutes) and participation in the following discussion.

The expected outcome of this Expert Meeting will be a report on the strengths and pitfalls of different models and recommendations to increase the impact of materials modelling in the European industry. This will be achieved by impulse talks by leaders in the field and by focused discussions.

EMMC-CSA: Webinar on Best Practices for Software Development

The EMMC-CSA working group for Professional Software Deployment is organizing the

The webinar is based on the White Paper for standards of modelling software development , where the EMMC-CSA provides guidelines for standards of modelling software development. The issues addressed in the paper includes method description, assumptions, accuracy and limitations, testing requirements, issue resolution, software licensing, version control and user documentation as well as continuous support.

The aim of the webinar is to extend awareness of these topics which are an integral part of professional software development but often overlooked by academic software developers. The goal is to increase the value of academic software through adaption of these guidelines in the academic community.

In this webinar EMMC software experts will introduce the guidelines of the white paper. After the presentation there will be a Q&A for the detail discussion of the recommendations and applicability of the recommendations.

The webinar will be presented by Dr. Kurt Stokbro (SYNOPSYS) and Dr. Volker Eyert (Materials Design SARL).

EMMC kindly invites Materials Model Software Developers and Users to attend the webinar to learn more and discuss about:

  • model descriptions and software architectures,
  • implementation, programming languages and deployment,
  • intellectual property and license considerations,
  • verification, testing, validation, and robustness,
  • organization of software development,
  • metadata,
  • user documentation, and support.

In case you have any questions regarding the webinar please don’t hesitate to contact Natalia Konchakova.
