Track: MIA.4 – “Industrial mathematics infrastructures around the world to promote industry-academia collaborations”

Within the framework of the EMMC, H2020 Projects “FORCE”, “MarketPlace”, and VIMMP” are taking part in the Minisymposium at ICIAM 2019, July 16, 2019, Valencia – Spain

Minisymposium ““Molecular and Mesoscopic Modelling in Chemical Engineering Data Science”

Reaching quantitative agreement with available experimental data, and predicting properties where data are absent, molecular and mesoscopic modelling transforms chemical engineering data science.

This minisymposium discusses virtual marketplaces and platforms by which the knowledge from multiscale modelling and simulation can be transferred to engineering practice. This requires an institutionalized collaboration between academic and industrial engineering, scientific computing, and applied mathematics, and jointly governed semantic assets to ensure the interoperability of models, numerical solvers, and databases.

Initiatives working toward this (FORCE, MarketPlace, and VIMMP) are represented at the minisymposium jointly with translators who connect method development with engineering practice.

EMMC feat. the Virtual Materials Marketplace (VIMMP) Ontology Webinar

EMMC announces the start of the VIMMP webinar series, starting with the ontology work in the European project VIMMP – Virtual Materials Marketplace.
The semantic assets from VIMMP are developed in close coordination with the EMMC-CSA and MarketPlace projects and are intended to be of use to the EMMC and materials modelling community as a whole.

Thursday, May 23, 2019, 15.30 – 16.15 CEST (14.30 – 15.15 BST)

The webinar will be presented by Martin Horsch (STFC-12)

Semantic assets can facilitate the integration of diverse data and software components into a coherent framework, permitting different approaches and solutions to become interoperable. Ontologies are semantic assets that characterize objects (entities) and the possible relations between them. Read more …

EMMC Expert Meeting on Business Aspects of Digital Marketplaces

EMMC-CSA partner FRAUNHOFER is organising an expert meeting on business aspects of materials modelling marketplaces on May 6-7, at EPFL, Lausanne, CH.

The objective of the meeting is to bring together experts to exchange ideas and explore potential business models for sustainable operations of online European digital marketplace platforms. These platforms act as Digitalisation Innovation Hubs for next generation materials development and combine services for materials modelling, translation, education, software, data repositories and hardware (e.g., access to HPC backends).

More details is available on the event page.

Organisation & Contact

This is an “Invitation-only” event. You will be contacted by the organisers.

For further information please contact Adham Hashibon (Fraunhofer IWM)  & Welchy Leite Cavalcanti (Fraunhofer IFAM)

This event is co-organised by EPFL.

EMMC – Report on IntOP2018: EMMC-CSA Workshop on Marketplaces and Interoperability

On November 6-7, 2018, the EMMC organised the “IntOP2018: EMMC-CSA Workshop on Marketplaces and Interoperability”. This workshop took place at Fraunhofer IWM in Freiburg, Germany.

The goal of the workshop is to bring together main actors developing next generation online materials science collaboration platforms including calculated and measured data repositories to foster discussions and collaboration.
For more information on the workshop – please visit the event-page!

EMMC Translation & training survey for marketplaces

The European Materials Modelling Council (EMMC), in the framework of its activities, has recently started a collaboration with the (EU H2020) VIMMP and MARKETPLACE projects. These latter projects aim to design and realize comprehensive online hubs for the materials modelling community, namely marketplaces.

To this goal, the requirements of marketplaces are to be tailored on the specific needs of the perspective users. Among the many services that are currently being planned, the marketplaces will offer a dedicated space to Translation & Training resources. As you may know from previous actions of the EMMC, Translation refers to all those activities required to translate an industrial innovation problem into a modelling activity, successfully bridging the industrial and the academic worlds to create new value.
In order to properly design the Translation and Training resources of the marketplaces, we would like to ask your opinion. A brief questionnaire is presented at the following link:

The survey takes short time to complete, and your contribution will be invaluable in helping us to design and shape the resources and tools that will be available on the marketplaces for Translation. So, we would sincerely appreciate your feedback. We guarantee that your data will be handled only by the EMMC and only for the purpose of this survey, in complete respect of your privacy.
Thank you in advance for your willingness and cooperation.
