EMMC Workshop “Industrial view and needs for Translation”

DPI, a partner of the EMMC-CSA project, is organising a workshop on “Industrial view and needs for Translation” in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.

December 4, 2018 – 09:00 – 16:00 GMT

DPI office
Kennispoort, John F. Kennedylaan 2,
The Netherlands

The main idea of the workshop is to evaluate the translation concept and the role of the translator from the point of view of industry. Therefore, the participants are targeted to be industrial members that are either using or are interested to learn how to use modelling.

The outcome from the discussions during the workshop will be used as recommendations towards relevant currently running EU projects and, via the EMMC Road Map updated with the feedback from the workshop, for giving direction to future projects/calls of the European Commission.

For more information please visit the event page!

For more information regarding the workshop please contact Denka Hristova-Bogaerds (DPI).

EMMC Industrial User Expert Meeting to Increase the Industrial Exploitation of Materials Modelling

On September 25, 2018 the EMMC is organising the “EMMC Industrial User Expert Meeting to increase the Industrial Exploitation of Materials Modelling”.

St John’s Innovation Centre
Cambridge CB4 0WS

Background & Objectives

The EMMC sees people, tools, process and data as the four pillars of a successful deployment of materials modelling in the industrial community. We will engage with participants in discussions to see how each of the pillars need to be strengthened in such a way to lead to a holistic solution for a deep and wide engagement of all involved stakeholders to make materials modelling a strong contender in industrial organisation. We are also aiming to find suggestions that may lead to a stable/established deployment of modelling in Industry.

EMMC Expert Meeting on Open source, free software and commercially supported software for materials modelling

Date – October 25-26, 2018

Venue – tba, Paris, France

One of the main objectives of the EMMC is increasing the use of materials modelling software in the European industry. As described in the attached document, the Paris meeting serves this objective by bringing together leading European software developers and stakeholders.

The expected contribution from the invited experts will be very short impulse talks (5-10 minutes) and participation in the following discussion.

The expected outcome of this Expert Meeting will be a report on the strengths and pitfalls of different models and recommendations to increase the impact of materials modelling in the European industry. This will be achieved by impulse talks by leaders in the field and by focused discussions.

EMMC Workshop on Interoperability in Materials Modelling – IntOP2017

Discussion notes and all talks are available in the event page!

Date: 7-8 November 2017

VenueSt John’s Innovation Centre, Cambridge

Materials Modelling has become an essential part of research, development, engineering and upscaling of advanced materials in a wide range of industry sectors. However, the routes to utilising materials modelling and achieving impact can be arduous. For wider use and increased impact, it must become easier to combine and connect different models and codes as well as models, workflows and data. Also, connections and routes in between different actors require improvement, calling for ‘digital marketplaces’ where the different stakeholders can interact more easily. Integration of materials modelling into the R&D enterprise in the age of Industry 4.0 requires the whole field to step back and work together on interoperability solutions that go much beyond stringing together workflows with syntactically based scripting. It calls for interoperability solutions that are based on semantic approaches with metadata backed up by an ontology framework.

EMMC Brokerage and networking event 2017

A specific session in the Industrial Innovation Info Days 2017 dedicated to the Materials Modelling and Characterisation will take place in the afternoon of 4 October. It will be followed by a brokerage and networking event, supported by the European Materials Modelling Council (EMMC), during which interested stakeholders will have the opportunity to present their initial project ideas for the 2018-19 Materials Modelling related calls  and meet potential partners.

Should you be interested in presenting a project idea, please send an email to (Subject: EMMC Materials Modelling BROKERAGE EVENT 2017) by September 25, indicating your name, the name of your company/institute, the title of your project and the reference of the call topic addressed. We strongly recommend to use this Template to prepare your presentation.

Please note that registration for the Industrial Innovation Info Days and Brokerage events is mandatory and seats are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis!

EMMC Materials Modelling Workshop, Uppsala, Jun 2017

15-16 June 2017 at Uppsala University, Sweden

The EMMC is organising a Workshop for Model Developers, Software owners and Translators focusing on Model Quality, Gaps & Accuracy .

The workshop will be held on 15-16 June 2017 at Uppsala University, Sweden.

The main purpose of the meeting io discuss limitations in the models we use and the consequences that this may have for the end-users, and suggest an action plan for the future.  The following topics wil be  in focus:

  • Model gaps – identification and remedies
  • Accuracy and accuracy assessment: The human error, the systematic error and the  statistical error
  • The roles of software developers and translators in these efforts
  • Economic impact of modelling

The meeting is free of charge, including lunches.  Send a mail to if you would like to participate. More details, here:
